What is the advantage to Laparoscopic approach compared to open?
Laparoscopic surgery has several advantages over open including less blood loss, reduced transfusion rates, shorter hospital stay and a quicker return to normal activity
Is there any difference between robotic and laparoscopic approaches?
The main differences between these two techniques relates to differences in the equipment used. Both are types of keyhole surgery. The robotic approach allows the surgeon to have a more magnified view combined with more control and more dexterous instruments which in my opinion provides greater control particularly in more difficult cases. In my experience I have found that return of complete urinary control is faster with robotic surgery than when compared to standard laparoscopy.
