Just a few short years ago I braced myself facing T.U.R.P. prostate surgery considering all that I had been told about the procedure by friends that had gone before me.

I am a veteran of surgery but nothing could prepare me for the torture that lay ahead of me.

When I awoke I found as one would expect a catheter however the size of the thing was what amazed me, to be expected I suppose the surgeon needed room to work in there, however the pain that I had to endure for the next few days was enough to make me consider whether I was better off not having the surgery. For weeks after I was peeing blood and tissue and I was unable to sit.

To my horror recently I found that I was nearly as bad as I was prior to my T.U.RP. surgery. Discussing my condition with my Doctor he told me some of his patients had Green Light surgery at the John Flynn Hospital under the care of a specialist Dr. Charles Chabert and his patients had recovered remarkably fast. After a lot of research and consideration I was referred to Dr. Chabert.

I have had previously been under the care of specialists but I had never felt as comfortable as I did when I entered Dr. Chabert’s rooms.

With some reservation I booked in for afternoon surgery. After leaving the recovery area after surgery I was asked to indicate the level of pain and I indicated about 4 or 5 out of 10, I was given a magic pill and from that point on I had no pain what so ever. The catheter was much smaller as it only had to accommodate a fibre optic instrument and it was removed 10 hours after surgery, I went home the next morning and went straight into building my boat that I had been working on. I was in trouble for that but I felt that good.

To sum up, no pain, no blood or left over tissue, just a little care needed not to sit on a hard surface for a few weeks.

After my previous T.U.R.P. I may have been a little cavalier I would suggest that patients follow Doctors instructions.
